Hatiku

The Project

Hatiku began as a small photography project in early 2020, with a goal to capture the vibrant colors & individuality of the street vendors in my community.

As the pandemic hit, and I watched hardworking vendors fight to stay afloat in a struggling economy, the project grew in my heart. The few photographs and stories I was collecting took on more significance as they reflect the experience of a historic crisis through the lens of this group of Indonesian merchants.

The island of the gods

With tourism all but dried up, and many businesses continuing to shutter, I want to share this project as a way to both shine a light on their plight while also celebrating the tenacity, and resiliency of those who are so harshly financially impacted by this devastating global event. Hatiku means ‘my heart’ in Indonesian. It is my hope that by sharing from the heart, I might be able to raise funds to help provide some economic support for these vendors and their families. I will be auctioning these selected photographs as NFT’s and giving 100% of the profits to the warung owners.
